Selling clothes at a resale shop is easier than you think - click through for my best tips and tricks on buying *and* selling at Buffalo Exchange! I promise it’s the absolute best place to score affordable clothes!

I looooove taking clothes to resale shops (and shopping there, too!) but I realized a lot of people don’t take advantage of them! I decided to make a video with tips on selling to and shopping at Buffalo Exchange (and to show you what I bought)!

In case you’re reading this at work (I see you!) or you just don’t feel like watching a video, here’s a little recap for ya! (Although I do go into more detail in the video so if you’re really interested in this topic, I suggest watching the video). I try to clean out my closet multiple times per year and take everything to a resale shop – usually I go to Buffalo Exchange first, and then Plato’s Closet with whatever Buffalo Exchange doesn’t take.

Buffalo Exchange usually takes more of my stuff because they also accept vintage and don’t care as much about brand – Plato’s Closet usually wants name brands and focuses more on “teen” styles.

Tips for Selling at Buffalo Exchange (or other resale shops!)

  • Don’t go in expecting to leave with a certain amount of money – keep an open mind and be happy with what you get!
  • Wait to shop until they tell you how much you’ll receive from the clothes you’re selling. This will keep you from overspending or leaving with more than you should.
  • Don’t take in clothing with holes, stains, etc. – it’s just a waste of time and I think it devalues the rest of the items in your haul.
  • Make sure things are neat and folded – I don’t know if this really matters, but it makes life better for the people going through your clothes.
  • Don’t look through your rejects again – whatever they don’t accept, donate immediately or keep stashed away until you can get rid of it. If you go back through it, you’re probably going to end up keeping something you shouldn’t.

Tips for Shopping at Buffalo Exchange

  • Go in with a list so you leave with things you really need and don’t waste time on things you don’t.
  • Check everything closely for holes or stains.
  • Make sure it actually fits (unless you regularly go to the tailor or can repair clothes yourself…I definitely don’t.)
  • Don’t impulse buy – even if it’s affordable! Make yourself plan at least 3 outfits with each item before you purchase them.

Last but not least, a look at the things I bought! Total, I spent $65 (just $3 more than I received for the clothes I sold), so I think I did pretty well! I walked away with four items that I’ll be wearing regularly throughout the fall and winter and spent probably 1/3 of retail price…maybe even less!

    1. YOU SHOULD! I’m such a big fan because I love thrifting (both for my wallet and the environment) but sometimes I can’t handle going to regular thrift stores, I just don’t always have the patience.
