If there’s one thing most of us can agree on, it’s that 2016 has been tough. Between countless unexpected celebrity deaths, the election from hell and (for me), unexpected financial changes, family member deaths, sleepless nights, working way too many hours and more…it’s been rough. But honestly, I feel tougher than ever.

As horrible as it is to go through crises like this, I know I’m a stronger, smarter, more competent woman because of what I have been through. There were times where I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it, and times where I almost quit. This year has worked hard on me, pruning the dead branches to make way for the new. I gave up two businesses that just weren’t doing it for me personally or financially (a wedding floral design business and an Etsy shop). It was really hard for me to let go, but it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Freeing up that time and mental space made way for more opportunities with my blog and better business opportunities for me.

I have another business in the works that I’m not *quite* ready to share with you yet, but I promise once it’s ready you’ll be the first to know! I’ll also be adding a “Work With Me” tab to my blog where you can learn more about how we can team up to make things happen. In the next week or two, I’ll be doing more posts about goals and figuring out what 2017 looks like, so be on the lookout for all of that good stuff.

When I was looking at these photos, all I could think of was that they are a perfect representation of who I am as a person right this minute – eclectic, badass, strong, confident, and a little bit weird. I cannot imagine December 2015 Valery wearing this look, I just wasn’t in that state of mind yet. But 2016 Valery is ready to take on the world and conquer 2017 in the process.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, as you think about how terrible 2016 is, take a look at yourself. Are you a better person than you were when 2016 started? Are you kinder? More empathetic? Stronger? Smarter? More determined? That old saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is seriously so true. So if you survived 2016 – congrats! Now put on something that makes you feel amazing and let’s make something happen. 2017 is just a few days away.

xoxo

Valery
