It’s here! 2017 is here! After all that happened in 2016, I think the majority of us were ready for a fresh start. When I sat down to choose my word for 2017, I anticipated a grueling process. I’d been thinking it over casually for the last few days and had no idea what I was going to choose. Then when I sat down to write this post…it just happened!

Last year, my word for the year was curate. I was taking on way too many unrelated projects that didn’t really make sense. I got rid of lots of unnecessary things in my life, and my word of the year really guided me through the process. Admittedly, I have added a few new projects since then but they’re more closely connected instead of having three totally different career paths.

ANYWHO – I’ve chosen a word for this year….cultivate. It kind of popped into my head because it’s pretty similar to curate. Then when I did a quick dictionary search, I realized it was straight up perfect for where I’m going this year. In all aspects of my life, I want to cultivate.

I love that the four definitions of cultivate cover the aspects of my life that I’m really hoping to further in 2017 – specifically my blog, social media and personal relationships. In addition to pageview and social media follower growth, I really want to make sure I’m engaging more with those followers. In addition, I want to continue to cultivate all of my relationships and strengthen them – both online and IRL.

Today I’m linking up with Nicole of Writes Like a Girl so make sure you head over and read some of the other 2017 word posts to get inspired!

Did you choose a word for 2017? If so, what is it?

  1. Oh cultivate is such an amazing work to focus on this year. I like that it’s like an extension of your word from 2016. This is my first year choosing a word to focus on, but I was really inspired by the link up at Writes Like a Girl and I think I settled on something perfect! I can’t wait to see what you cultivate in 2017 <3

  2. I shared my link on Nicole’s post as well, and I had to go and read all of them. I love your word, and your blog! BTW, I tried to click on the link in the sidebar to follow you on Instagram, but it didn’t work. Looks like the link is missing a letter in your name. xoxo

  3. Valery! I love your word of the year. It’s perfect for you and all that you are working on. I cannot wait to see what this year brings for you. My word is simply and I’m actually linking up with Nicole tomorrow on why I decided on it.

  4. I love that you have gone from curating to cultivating. Such an great transition to a new word and new year. By the way, I love the cover on your planner.

  5. Stopping over from Nicole’s site. Such good C words! Curate and Cultivate. Both so good. Both really making sure that the things in your life are rich, strong, and that you want them to be there. Very cool.
