’Tis the season for festive looks and for this month’s Diversity Chic, we’re closing out 2016 by tackling a trend that’s perfect for the holidays – velvet! To top it off, we’ve accented our looks with accessories that we picked up at our favorite place to shop in Dallas, The Vintage House.
In case you’ve never read this series, here’s what Diversity Chic is about
Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.
Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.
Like most of the throwback trends (I’m looking at you, chokers), if you had told me three years ago I would be obsessed with velvet in 2016…I would’ve laughed at you. But now, you can just call me George Costanza….
I’ve found that for my body type (and comfort), draped velvet or velvet accessories works the best. Velvet definitely isn’t a very forgiving fabric so I’m not crazy about how I look in velvet bodycon dresses or pencil skirts. That being said, of course DO YOU. Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you should or should not wear for your body type – that’s jut what I’m comfortable with!
Velvet Skirt: Forever 21 (sold out now, unfortunately) | Bodysuit: Boohoo ($12; exact available in a few sizes and they have tons of other affordable bodysuits too)| Necklace: Kendra Scott via The Vintage House | Booties: Boohoo (sold out but they hae tons of other affordable options) | Lips: Lipsense in First Love | Photos by Stephanie Drenka
I actually first saw this skirt online but didn’t order it because I was being cheap and didn’t want to pay shipping. I went on the hunt and *almost* left the store until I saw it literally on my way out the door! Since this skirt kind of does all the talking, I decided it would work well to pair it with a simple high neck black bodysuit. But of course I couldn’t resist and added a faux fur coat…story of my life. I topped it off with simple black sock boots and this beautiful Kendra Scott necklace available at The Vintage House.
Don’t forget to check out the other velvet looks from Denise (wearing a beautiful velvet skater skirt), Sevi (killing it in a blue velvet dress) and Stephanie (in a beautiful black velvet dress, perfect for any holiday look).
I’ve talked about the Vintage House before, but just in case you are local to the Dallas area and you still have some holiday shopping left to do, I wanted to give you some great gift ideas available at the Vintage House right now! It seems small from the outside but they have TONS of inventory, plus you’re supporting a small business AND you don’t have to deal with the mall crowds. Seriously a win-win situation!
- Kendra Scott jewelry (they have a large selection that’s 30% off!)
- Vera Bradley (their entire faux leather collection is 50% off)
- Tyler Candles
- Swell Bottles
- Lots of great hand lotions
- Wood wick candles
There are plenty of other things available so go get your last minute shopping done. Also they do free gift wrapping (that’s not branded and will look beautiful under your tree)!
Can I gush anymore about The Vintage House? Yes, I could but I won’t. This post isn’t sponsored by them, but they were kind enough to loan us accessories to wear. We all love Nan (the owner of the Vintage House) and the entire Vintage House family so make sure to stop by and support them! They even ship if you want to shop online.
