Happy Monday, friends! Remember when I said I would have more guest posters for you? I have another one today! And this one is particularly exciting because she hails from Montréal! Girls, I know that we’ve all been there before, just standing in front of our closet full of clothes and thinking, ”Gosh, I don’t have anything to wear!” The reason why you think that (even though your closet is full), is that your wardrobe is not cohesive! Think of it like a puzzle. Yes the pieces could look nice by themselves, but if they don’t fit together, you will never get to see the finished puzzle! Here are some things to consider when trying to create a more cohesive wardrobe.
What’s your aesthetic?
Nowadays we have so many options when it comes to fashion and shopping that it’s hard to keep track. Think about what you want to project with your style. Do you want to be boho, athletic or vintage? What era are you attracted you? What are your passions aside from fashion? Use all of these elements to help you determinate your aesthetic. Personally, my style is a combination of feminine and bohemian. With that in mind, once you’ve chosen a general style, go ahead and take a look in your closet. Which items best represent you and your personal style? Starting from that, see what you are missing and slowly add those pieces to your closet. Soon enough, you will never have to say again that you have nothing to wear!
What is your color scheme?
For colors, think about what looks good you. Are you a fair skinned girl and you like to contrast it by wearing dark colors? (Valery says “that’s me!”) Or are you a dark skinned girl who likes super bright colors that make your complexion pop? Just quickly check out your closet and see which colors you end up constantly buying. Those are naturally your favorite colors to wear and what you feel the more confident in. For me, the colors I can’t stop buying are pink, white, blue, cream and other shades of pastels. Even thought most of my clothes consists of those colors, sure I like many other colors like black and grey etc. But if you want to have a cohesive closet, it’s important to have a theme and colors that goes well together. This way, I know that I can pick up any pastel top in my closet and match it with a pair of cream bottoms.
What patterns and fabrics are you attracted to?
For patterns, choose a number of patterns and try to carry them on a little throughout your closet. I’m not saying to buy 50 items with polka dots, but think about incorporating some polka dot pieces to add an extra touch to some of the more boring clothes you have. For summer, I adore anything striped in blue and white. I have around 5 key pieces in this pattern that coordinate nicely with my favorite fabric: lace! This way, I can easily create a complete outfit with a striped top, a pair of jeans and a light colored cardigan.
If you follow those easy tips, you will be able to create a very cohesive wardrobe where almost all of your clothes go well together! Now it’s time to shop 😀
