Best Products for Color Treated Hair

It can be tough to know where to begin when you’re searching for products for color treated hair. It’s especially difficult when you have fantasy colors like purple, blue or pink. Lucky for you, I’ve been coloring my hair for quite some time and have nailed down my top picks for the best products for color treated hair (all available at Sally Beauty!) Click through to find out what made the list!I have had bright colored hair for a while and let me tell you I have tried LOTS of products. Some awesome and some terrible. Recently, Sally Beauty gifted me some products to try and lots of them have quickly become favorites for me. These are products I use regularly and, just to be transparent, not everything they sent to me made it on this list. This is the real deal, babes. If you’re not shopping at Sally Beauty I would *highly* recommend making a trip! It helps to know what you’re looking for when you go into the store, but there are some GEMS. These are my favorites that are must haves for people with fantasy and color treated hair but honestly, the majority of them will work for any hair type. You probably just won’t need as many different products if you’re not bleached to a level 11 like me. Click on each product name to visit the website and buy – happy shopping!

Generic Value Products Tea Tree Oil Shampoo (Compare to Paul Mitchell) – perfect for when you want to remove your color or for a nice deep clean before you reapply. Unlike literally every other clarifying shampoo I’ve used in the past, this one gives a really intense clean without making your hair feel like straw. Just be aware this *will* strip some of your color so don’t use it on a fresh dye job!

Generic Value Products Leave In Conditioner (Compare to It’s A 10) – It’s a 10 has been a go-to for me for quite some time but HOLY goodness is it expensive! I almost lost my mind when I found out Sally Beauty had a dupe for a fraction of the price. Yes please.

Manic Panic Semi Permanent Cream Hair Color – Sometimes I think Manic Panic gets a bad rap and I really don’t know why. Yes it’s been around forever, but there’s a reason! You can get insanely bright, jewel tones without the commitment (which is almost unheard of). Yes, it washes out over time but most people with fantasy hair don’t want it to stay that way. I used to use products to maintain my color but it did my more harm than good because once I went to switch it up, I would have to bleach my whole head. No good. I love throwing on Manic Panic and leaving it for at least an hour so my hair is saturated and conditioned. Then after a few weeks, I do it all over again.

Rock Your Hair Spray It Clean Dry Shampoo – I cannot even begin to tell you how many dry shampoos I’ve tried and this one is seriously my FAVORITE. Light scent, doesn’t leave major white residue, works all day long and won’t break the bank. Win.

Generic Value Products Smoothing Serum (Compare to Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum) – This is actually a new product I added to my lineup and I’m LOVING it so far! It really does decrease the dry time and helps my hair feel much softer.

180PRO Color Remedy Illuminating Drops – Like dry shampoo, I’ve tried an INSANE number of hair oils. Some are great and some are….not so great. This one is the best of both worlds – it moisturizes really well but it doesn’t make my hair greasy. I apply this stuff all the time (on wet and dry hair) and it’s fabulous. Dry shampoo on the roots, oil on the ends and you’re set.

Wet Brush – YALL. This brush is the truth!!! Raise your hand if you brush your hair after you take a shower….if you’re hand is up, you’re doing it wrong. You’re supposed to use a comb when your hair is wet but, let’s be honest, that’s the worst. I LOVE using my Wet Brush because I can use it on wet hair (or dry, obviously) and it doesn’t damage or break your hair like a normal brush would. I can tell a huge difference in the amount of breakage on my hair since I started using it.

ion Color Brilliance Absolute Perfection Steps 1 and 2 (Olaplex dupe) – Are you ready to have your mind blown? This stuff is an Olaplex dupe. I’m serious. Use step one when you mix your bleach and/or color (only color with a developer though) and use step 2 after. Now your hair is soft and shiny and you paid $4 instead of the $40-$60 you would pay for Olaplex. I KNOW.

BTZ Volumizing Powder – Last but not least, all that oil can sometimes make my hair a little heavy and weighed down at the roots. This Texas girl only believes in BIG hair so that’s just not gonna happen for me. I sprinkle this powder at the roots when I need some added volume. Warning: this stuff does make your hair a tad sticky so use sparingly and don’t expect to run your fingers through your hair after using it. It also lasts several days (if you don’t wash every day).

There are honestly SO many great products at Sally Beauty but these are my must-haves for anyone with fantasy colored hair…and most I would recommend to anyone! I’m hosting a giveaway on Instagram where you can win one of EVERYTHING on this list! Pretty dang amazing, right! Head over to Instagram to enter – contest closes Wednesday, Feb 22 at 11:59 PM CT.

    1. I am not being dramatic when I say the Wet Brush is LIFE CHANGING. I have a buttload of hair and it still manages to get through all my hair when it’s wet! (Although sometimes I section it to make it easier). But I’ve noticed a serious improvement in my hair since I started using it.

  1. Um, the collage image of your beautiful rainbow hair is such eye candy!! I haven’t colored my hair yet (just balayage- but one day, I’d love to go all black or something!) and to be honest, the only hair product I use regularly is Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo. But I still enjoyed reading this post!

    1. Okay if I’m being honest, I’m kind of obsessed with that collage too lol. There’s nothing wrong with only using minimal hair products! I wish I didn’t have to use the ridiculous cocktail I have lol. That dry shampoo is definitely a winner (although the one in this post really is my ride or die), Not Your Mother’s is a close second for me!

    1. There’s nothing wrong with that! You make SUCH a beautiful brunette, I don’t blame you at all for keeping it the same!
