After much searching, I have found the holy grail of eyeshadow primers – it’s available at the drugstore, it’s cheap and it’s cruelty free.

I KNOW.

I’ve been on the hunt ever since my former lover, the elf Eyeshadow Primer, stopped working for me. I don’t know if my lids got oilier or they changed their formula but for some reason it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. It was especially terrible with more buttery shadows, my lids would crease after just a few hours of wear. Yikes.

Finally, I picked up the Milani Eyeshadow Primer at Walgreens on a whim. At $7, I figured I might as well try. It was my last chance at a drugstore, cruelty free eyeshadow primer. This was my Hail Mary. Also another sports reference or something.

I tried this primer out a few times when I visited Denver. I was THRILLED with the results. My eyeshadow stuck around for 12+ hours and looked amazing. Denver is known for being dry though, so getting back to Texas was key.

I tried it on my first day back, applying it at about 9am. I’m thrilled to say at 7pm I took this awkward “after” selfie, and as you can see, 10+ hours later my shadow was still looking bomb as ever! I couldn’t believe it. All day I was checking my lids out in the mirror in disbelief.

A few things to note – a little goes a LONG way with this primer. A tiny, tiny dot will cover your whole lid so use sparingly. You can apply it with a brush but I just pat it with my ring finger. The primer is a generic tan color but it blends out just fine on my skin. I’m not 100% sure how it would look on darker skin tones but for $6-7 I still think it’s worth a shot!

Now go get yourself this drugstore eyeshadow primer from Milani so you can wear ALL of the eyeshadow ALL of the time.

  • Do you wear eyeshadow primer? (Why not, you monster?!)
