You know how sometimes you get super stressed because something’s not working out and then it ends up being perfect? That’s basically this entire shoot.
If you don’t have time to read this whole post, make sure to scroll down to the bottom for an awesome giveaway!
First off, I was feeling really self conscious about my outfit. I KNOW I talked about body image pretty extensively in my last post but whatever, it’s something I struggle with, and odds are, you do too occasionally. I put this shirt on and for some reason I just felt like nothing worked. It wasn’t the shirt, it was me – I just felt like nothing was “flattering” and I was getting super bummed out. Finally decided on these skinny jeans and headed out the door.
I originally wanted a location that was super “X Files-y” but…what would that even mean? I couldn’t come up with anything so I decided to head to Downtown Carrollton. As soon as I left my house, the clouds rolled in. The rain was going to start any minute and we really didn’t have much time to spare. My husband suggested we go somewhere closer but, per usual, I was annoyed that plans had to change. I’m really terrible about that – when plans change, I kind of panic a bit.
WELL of course we ended up finding a really great abandoned boxcar five minutes from my house. And of course, one of the most iconic episodes of The X Files largely takes place on a train so it was totally perfect. And I ended up loving my outfit. So, I get it universe…sometimes I just need to be grateful and happy and stop complaining.
Ear Jacket: BaubleBar ($14; similar) | Baseball Tee: c/o Totally Good Time ($24; exact) | Jeans: Old Navy ($20; exact) | Loafers: Target ($12; exact-limited sizes available) | Lips: Colourpop Cosmetics ($6; exact)
Baseball tees are honestly one of my favorite things to wear – they’re surprisingly versatile. You can throw one on with just about any kind of bottom (jeans, leggings, mini skirts, shorts, a line skirts, you name it) and they can be dressed up or down. When I was planning this post I couldn’t decide how dressy I wanted to go and that’s when it hit me..hello, show the versatility!
I freaking LOVE this particular baseball tee. I don’t like wearing white baseball tees because I literally always get food on them (#adult) so the greys in this one spoke to me. Of course, even if you’re not an X Files fan surely you know this is an X Files reference. Mulder and Scully phone calls are one of the best parts of the show and they literally always start with “Mulder (or Scully) it’s me” – just trust me, it’s presh.
I kept the accessories minimal with just a tattoo choker (shutup, I can’t help it) and some ear jackets. Also I bought this Saks Fifth Avenue purse at Goodwill for $3 and I’m so in love with it. I started out super casual with some black and white Nikes – I love this look for running errands. It’s just as comfy as wearing jeans and a regular t shirt but I really think baseball tees look much more elevated than a normal t-shirt.
Next up, I opted for a pair of loafers. This can easily be substituted for any flats you might have (and they all look great with baseball tees!) A little dressier than tennis shoes, but still a more casual look. This would be great for a day date or a hangout with friends when you don’t want to look too dressed up.
Lastly, heels! I love this look because it’s kind of unexpected. Baseball tees are definitely more of a “borrowed from the boys” style so pairing it with heels dresses them up a little. Don’t forget to add in some extra jewelry if you want to be even more glam.
