Little Black Dress FailFirst off, this is not a Cyber Monday post. As much as I loooooove online shopping and plan on doing a whole lot of it, I figure you can check the websites of your favorite sites. Just don’t forget to google for extra coupon codes to make sure you get the best deals possible!

dallas-fashion-blogger-valery-brennan-2139This IS, however, a lesson in online shopping. If you’ve read blogs or been on Pinterest in recent past, you’ve probably noticed an influx in popular online shops with insanely low prices. Many of those shops are located in China, hence the super low prices and very long shipping times. I’ve avoided them for the most part but after seeing another blogger post about one in particular, Zaful, I decided to take a stab at it! I did a lot of browsing and after carefully consulting the sizing guides, ordered two adorable dresses. One was actually featured by that blog, a black and white striped oversized dolman dress – perfect for fall and winter layering. The other was a black t shirt dress that just said “LITTLE BLACK DRESS” in bold white letters. I thought it was fun and quirky and perfectly fit into my wardrobe.

This was back in mid August.

Fast forward to mid November (yes, that’s two months later) and my package finally arrived. One package that seemed a little small to house two items so I was already on edge. That being said, I’ve done my fair share of packing stuff for the mail and I know the art of shoving things into a polymailer so I opened it.

Nope. Just one dress. I unfolded the dress (already disappointed because my black and white beauty was not in there), and as soon as I opened the dress I busted out laughing. “LITTLE BLACK DRESS” instead read “LDSTLE BLACL DRESS!” I’m sure it was somehow lost in translation but this wasn’t even close!

Not only are they not reliable (I still haven’t received my other dress), but there’s a chance their practices aren’t exactly ethical. If something seems “too good to be true” (including a website where EVERYTHING is insanely cheap), then it probably is.

This time around I decided to just laugh it off and wear the dress anyway, but let this be a lesson to you….skip the stores based in China.

Ready to steal this style? This one’s super easy so make sure to use pieces you already have (black leggings, fun earrings, booties and your favorite hat!) That being said…definitely check the linked dress below – it’s amazing and honestly I’m sad I don’t have it for myself!Steal-this-styleDress: Zaful (similar only $10) | Jacket: Sears (exact on sale for $20!) | Leggings: Charlotte Russe (exact on sale for $10!) | Booties: Target (exact on sale for $27!) | Earrings: BaubleBar (similar on sale for $16) | Hat: Forever 21 Men’s (similar on sale for $12)
